Renata Gonzales was a spunky, creative, outgoing sweetheart and younger sister of Mica Gonzales, a college buddy of Andy, Aaron, and Steve’s. In 2008 Renata was the victim of a hit-and-run accident while riding her bike on Market Street.  She suffered debilitating injuries including severe brain damage, and finally passed away this past February.

The event this Thursday at 111 Minna is both a celebration of her life and a way to offer support for her older bro Mica, who co-signed for her college loans and is now facing down a $44,000 bill - backed by relentless creditors, just as he’s become a new father and husband.  The event is $20 entry, the proceeds are going entirely to support Mica’s family, and there will be an opportunity to donate more at the event.

Grim reality aside - this is going to be a raging fun party.  The Fancy Dan Band is opening, and there’s a full line-up of hip-hop, house, & reggae DJs setting up shop in the sideroom.  RJX hasn’t played a gig in SF since 2009 and we’re ready to rumble.  We’re also humbled and honored for the opportunity to support this, and hope you’ll join us in turning this into a positive, meaningful, and impactful celebration.

A snippet from a Bar of America show in 2007:
Backstory:
The Ron Jeremy Explosion kicked off their heroic 4-year rocket ride through San Francisco and northern California as a straight-up rock-n-roll band in 2000. By the time they meteored back to earth in 2004 they’d grown increasingly prone to fits of pocket funk, groove electronica, knob-tweaking psychedelia, and the occasional detour into dissonant children’s music or an 80’s TV anthem. Upon impact, they wandered around dazed for a while, hopscotched a couple members across the country and back, then finally decided to dust off the chops for a reunion show in 2006.

A dozen “reunion” shows later the RJX is still officially not a band, but retains the right to blast the roof off an unsuspecting northern California club, ski resort, festival or foot-race without warning at any time.
